ALTER/NATIVE products have been created and developed by Suma members. All products are made in the UK and we take great care in sourcing our ingredients ethically and making sure they’re always cruelty free. We are certified vegan and are Leaping Bunny approved. We use sustainable packaging - paper, card, home compostable wrap and prevented ocean plastics. Our packaging is always recycled and always recyclable.
Our ALTER/NATIVE products are part of Suma - co-operative since 1977.
From the outside a co-op can look like a regular business, but what happens inside makes us different. All co-ops are based on the same 7 principals:
Voluntary & Open Membership - open to all, with no gender, social, racial, political or religious discrimination.
Democracy - an equal say in how it’s run and how the profits are used.
Member economic participation - we all contribute equally.
Autonomy and Independence - owned and controlled by our members.

ALTER/NATIVE by Suma is UK made hair and body care from an equal pay worker co-op. Ethically sourced, sustainable packaged and always cruelty free.
ALTER/NATIVE Is part of the Suma family, where we’ve been doing things a bit differently for over 40 years. Suma is a worker co-op - a business owned and run by the nearly 200 people who work here. It’s a workplace with no bosses or shareholders where everyone has equal pay and an equal say - we’re the largest equal pay co-op in Europe. You can’t say fairer than that, right?!
